Airport Capacity Calculator

The Airport Capacity Calculator answers the most repeated question in Itty Bitty Airport: “Can I host this plane yet?” Enter your indoor floor tile count and the tool lists every aircraft your capacity supports — from Beechcraft Premier I (0 tiles) through Airbus A380 (200 tiles).

How capacity works

Capacity = number of indoor floor tiles
1 tile = 1 capacity

Outdoor runways, taxiways, and aprons do not count. Multi-story enclosed terminals count each indoor floor tile. This matches airport capacity guide and Taco Dev’s BETA design.

Each indoor floor tile equals 1 passenger capacity in Itty Bitty Airport.

Using the Capacity Calculator

This wiki page embeds the CapacityCalculator interactive component. On the live site:

  1. Navigate to this page (/tools/capacity-calculator/)
  2. Find the CapacityCalculator widget below this article
  3. Enter your total indoor floor tiles in the input field
  4. Click Calculate eligible planes
  5. Review the results list showing all planes at or below your capacity

The component reads plane data from the same source as planes hub — capacity thresholds for all 12 aircraft.

Example calculations

Tiles enteredPlanes unlocked (capacity only)
0Beechcraft Premier I
20+ Q400
40+ Boeing 737
60+ Airbus A320
80+ Boeing 777
150+ Boeing 747
200+ Airbus A380 (all planes)

Capacity alone doesn’t guarantee landings — you still need matching ATC, runway, and jetway. Use plane requirements checker next.

When to recalculate

After every terminal expansion session

Before announcing “747 ready” — must be 150+, not 149

After accidental demolition — save and protect

When planes not landing despite correct infrastructure

Counting tiles accurately

Walk terminal indoors — count floor tiles in enclosed areas

Include hallways and food courts if roofed — terminal design

Exclude jetway outdoor extensions unless indoor floor present

Double-count multi-floor levels separately

Capacity vs funding

Calculator shows eligibility, not affordability. Long Range ATC ($400K) for Concorde and A380 requires separate cash planning — how to get money

Bootstrap with codes — $162,000 total
